Pafici Palms Resort City of Industry Indian Wedding Gurjarati Hindu Weddings Urmi and Brian’s Mendhi Haldi Pithi Garnesh Pooja Graha Shanti Garba

Urmi prepared for her beautiful Indian wedding with the application of henna during mendhi and turmeric paste during pithi celebrations to get ready and celebrate the big day. Both of the events were held at the bride’s home and the outdoor patio space was transformed into a bright, colorful, exciting event where family and friends could gather together to bless the happy couple.

Light was abundant under the tents with hanging chandeliers and colored bursts of light reflected off of the white cover. Colored streamers of red, orange, yellow, and purple hung behind the bride’s seating and decorative fabrics and pillows added to the cheerful coloring among all of the beautiful saris.

The festivities continued the next morning with pithi rituals and the family took turns applying the turmeric paste to the bride’s face and body. We loved capturing the real smiles and cheerful chuckles in the daylight as the traditional yellow paste was applied and some playful smudges were tossed onto family members.

The bride’s home was transformed into a simple, intimate ceremony space where family and friends could celebrate the upcoming Indian wedding together and go through all of the steps, rituals, and celebrations to bless the couple on a long, happy life together. Long stretches of white tents offered cover and a deep red rug was laid down over the ground so that the Graha Shanti ritual could take place. Seated together and surround by supportive onlookers, the bride’s parents were remarried and a meal was shared together around a bright fire. We loved the intimacy of the affair and how the event took place close to home.

Urmi led her friends and family in traditional Garba dances that evening at the Pacific Palm Resort ballroom in Hacienda Heights, California. Much of the event space was left open and there was an airy atmosphere with lots of room for dancing in front of the live band stage. The bride and groom shared a bench with red pillows for seating and guests lined the walls in comfortable chairs with easy views for when they weren’t dancing along.
